LabCorp Data in >19,000 Children with a Diagnosis Code for T2D Show Predominantly Normal Liver Function Tests: Implications for Identifying Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease or Steatohepatitis (NAFLD/NASH)

ADA 2020 -- Type 2 diabetes (T2D) and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) have traditionally been thought of as adult-onset diseases, however given the obesity epidemic the prevalence of these co-morbidities in the pediatric population has been on the rise. The aim of this study was to characterize liver transaminase and HbA1C values in patients 7-17 years of age with a clinical suspicion of having T2D, NASH, or both NASH and T2D.
